Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Ultrasound team at Poole Hospital.
This is a Band 2 – Band 3 progression grade which entails developing the job competencies needed to carry out the full range of duties of the role through work experience and on the job/tailored training activities. Progression to Band 3 will follow the successful completion of all training and sign off of the specific job responsibilities. This is likely to take around twelve months and progression to Band 3 will be effective from formal sign off.

The main duties are:
• Performing basic nursing duties and care of the patient including dealing with bodily fluids, taking observations etc.
• Assisting Consultant Radiologists with procedures under ultrasound guidance such as biopsies, drainages and aspirations. Assisting sonographers and patients during their visit to the department.
• Inputting data into the department computer systems such as the Radiology Information system (RIS) and the image archive system (PACS).
• Assisting patients to prepare for examinations by helping them undress and explaining the procedure to them whilst maintaining privacy and dignity.
• Preparing procedure rooms for the forthcoming patients by laying up sterile trolleys.
• Assisting the patients through examinations, helping them to manoeuvre on the examination table, providing re-assurance and giving an explanation of what is happening.
• Liaison with other wards, departments and staff members to arrange patient appointments/care.
• Act as chaperone during examinations.
You will be working with Consultant Radiologists and Sonographers. A basic knowledge of nursing, or experience in a caring profession would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided.
