Summary

The directorate of children’s cardiac services includes congenital cardiac surgery and paediatric cardiology, where the team work closely with the paediatric intensive care and the WATCh transport service for the Southwest and South Wales. We have a close relationship with our colleagues in the division of Specialised Services who provide services for adult cardiology/congenital heart disease (‘CHD’) patients, and the Division of Diagnostics and Therapeutics which include radiologists with an interest in cardiac imaging. BRHC constitutes the Level 1 CHD centre within the Southwest and South Wales CHD Network, which is supported by a clinical director together with specialist nursing, administrative and managerial support.

There are very close links with the level 2 congenital cardiology service at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. We serve a population of approximately 7 million people. We provide a full range of services for children with congenital heart disease, together with short-term mechanical support (ECMO) where indicated - but excluding long-term mechanical support and transplantation.

The Paediatric cardiology department comprises of approximately 11 whole-time equivalent paediatric cardiologists with various interests and specialities. There is a 1:10 on call paediatric cardiology rota. All consultants deliver between four and five ‘service weeks’ per year. There is an expectation that you will take part in the Regional CHD Network and will provide ‘tertiary’ clinics in at least one of our referring District Hospitals as well as University Hospital Wales. You will also attend joint cardiac conferences and provide general paediatric cardiology clinics and have a significant role to play in the provision of an outstanding paediatric cardiology service for our patients with congenital heart disease. This a substantive post to start as soon as possible.

This role is for a full-time Paediatric Cardiologist with an interest in management of arrhythmia and inherited cardiac conditions based primarily at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The Clinical Director for Paediatric Cardiac Services is Dr Andrew Tometzki.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country, bringing together a combined workforce of over 13,000 staff and over 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites, serving a core population of more than 500,000 people across South West England. As an equal opportunities employer actively working towards a diverse workforce we aim to recruit and retain a workforce which represents the rich diversity of the local population at all levels and are committed to designing our services around the needs of individual patients and those around them. Anonymous information will be used from your application in order to ensure we’re meeting our pledge.
