Job summaryWe are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic substantive Consultant to work in our established Diabetes and Endocrine Department at Bedford Hospital which is part of the merged Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This appointment is a full-time replacement post, following the retirement of a senior colleague.
The role is to provide general endocrine and diabetes outpatient services, with a focus of enhancing the care of diabetes in pregnancy, as well as providing speciality outpatient clinics and general inpatient care to the firm's general medical patients on a rotational basis currently with 3 other consultants on the firm.
Main duties of the jobDuties will include 1 diabetes/endocrine antenatal clinic per week and support for this service, Diabetes and Endocrine outpatient clinics, general medical inpatients and supporting the Diabetes and Endocrine multidisciplinary team and the community diabetes specialist service.
The appointee will participate in an integrated on call rota with colleagues in Acute and General Medicine to provide cover for acute medicine; this is currently on a 1 in 16 basis but is likely to change in line with 7 day working.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training Essential- Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR or eligibility to enter it within 6 months from the date of the interview
- MRCP or equivalent
- Comprehensive knowledge and Clinical expertise in General Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology
- MD, PhD or other equivalent higher degree
- DAFNE or similar experience
- Experience in use of insulin pumps
