Summary
Job Title: Waste and Recycling Operative
Responsible To: Cleaning Supervisors/Cleaning Manager(s)
Location: W1 Complex & London Sites within Region
JOB PURPOSE:
To carry out and maintain high standards of waste and recycling collections/cleaning in a professional, competent and safe way in all of the BBC demised areas. As a client facing role operatives must also provide high levels of customer service.
Key Accountabilities and responsibilities:
-Carry out all tasks in accordance with the work schedule. To include but not limited to;
-Waste and recycling collections both scheduled and reactive
-Responsible for the collection, sorting and safe disposal of client waste and recycling materials on site. Segregating waste, identifying and storage of recyclables, empty and refresh general & recycling waste bins, regular checks on the condition of equipment & cleanliness of areas
-To maintain the general tidiness, cleanliness and safety of both internal and external areas. Keeping the refuse and recycling compound area tidy, clean and safe
-Replenishment of consumables
-Wiping down surfaces
-Empty/unlock bins
-Periodic/deep cleaning as required
-Assist in ensuring the waste and recycling services meets or exceeds the Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators required by the BBC
-Manage work orders in an efficient and timely manner
-Provide a professional service by ensuring all waste and recycling requirements are available to customers during the required service hours
-Compliance with all relevant Health and Safety procedures, ensuring the requirements of Health and Safety at Work and Environmental legislation are met at all times
-To respond promptly to reactive requests for waste and recycling services required by the customer
-Carry out any reasonable requests from the Cleaning Manager or Supervisors, providing it is within the operative's capability and competency
-Effectively communicate with all colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the Waste & Recycling Service
-Take ownership of Health and Safety for yourself and others at work
-Ensure any appropriate warning signs are always in use
-Observe and comply with site rules and regulations at all times
-Maintain equipment and materials in a clean and safe working order
-Report all machine and building faults to line manager
-Provide assistance according to business needs e.g. lunch cover/annual leave cover etc.
-Respond courteously to customer and management requests
-Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by line managers
-To use a time and attendance system to record working hours
-Wear the correct uniform, clothing, footwear and any personal protective equipment (PPE) that you are issued as identified by risk assessment
-Attend and participate in any training that the company provides for you
-Carry out site tasks using the approved methodology and procedures in line with the specification
PERSON SPECIFICATION (Experience/Qualifications/Skills)
-Previous experience is desirable - training will be provided
-Understanding of COSHH
-Flexible/Adaptable and pro-active approach to work
-Friendly and approachable manner
-Excellent communication skills
-Excellent customer service skills
-Ability to work on own with minimal supervision as well as part of a large team
-Set and maintain very high standards of delivery - attention to detail essential
-Ability to work under pressure in a highly demanding environment
