Summary


Essentia provide effective management and co-ordination of all non-clinical support services which are vital to the Trust functioning effectively, efficiently and economically to safely meet its overall objectives and continuing success.

The Building Maintenance & Improvement Department which covers all traditional ‘Estates functions’ is primarily responsible for providing professional, effective and efficient customer focused reactive and planned maintenance services to the Trusts buildings.

The Department is also responsible for minor improvements, refurbishment works, also replacement programmes, delegated capital projects and provides similar services to other third party organisations through Service Level Agreements. The Department works very closely with the Capital Projects, Engineering and Operation’s teams together with the end-user for successful delivery of all of these services

The Building Maintenance Team have exciting opportunities for Shift Multi Skilled Craftsperson's to play a key role in the Building Maintenance Service within St Thomas's Hospital, ensuring they meet the required standards in relation to quality of service.

You will have an NVQ Level 2 in a Building Maintenance field or equivalent. The successful candidates will be a self starters with proven skills.

Strong communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills are essential for this role, with the successful candidates operating across organisational boundaries.

The posts are part of the Essentia Building Maintenance Team and report to the Building Maintenance Team Manager.

Ensure that all policies and procedures laid down by the Trust are strictly complied with.

Report all defects on all items of equipment and any potentially hazardous risk.

Assemble and fix flat pack furniture and office equipment.

Carry out emergency glazing repairs, remove broken glass, board up or re-glaze

Undertake the cutting of keys using the computerised key cutting machine, replace a full range of locks to all types of doors.

Carry out repairs on locks and fit digital locks including mortice, Yale, Union and electronic locks.

Undertake measuring and pricing works which include quotes/estimates for locks.

Carry out temporary and permanent minor repairs to footpaths and road surfaces.

Carry out repairs to flat and pitch roofs and assist specialist roofing contractors and surveyors as required.

Carry out the removal of defective floor and floor covering and undertake temporary and permanent repairs as appropriate.

Fit and carry out repairs to external work including fencing, barriers, gateways, and assist the Gardening Team.

To assist departments in clearing and preparing work areas when required including the removal and repositioning of furniture, shelving, notice boards and office furniture etc.

Carry out a wide range of minor improvements works e.g. support brackets for monitors, shelving, storage facilities any wall mounted equipment

Identify and report faults/breakdowns that require the attendance of specialist support contractors and assist the contractor with the repair as and when necessary.

Carry out painting and decorating duites, minor repairs and full decorations

Assist in surveys of new works as and when necessary.

Carry out the full of associated building repair work including (but not exclusive) brickwork, block work, floor screeding, plastering, floor and wall tiling, coving.

Work in close proximity to patients and take requests from medical and nursing staff (i.e. assist with the loss of keys for drug cabinets or patient lockers).

Assist the Security Team in emergency situations i.e. patients getting locked in toilets, etc.

Work with a range of chemicals i.e. solvents, glues, varnish, stains, polishes and mix up stains as required.

Erect and dismantle access platforms, vertical and horizontal (base working platforms).

Use wood working machines to produce timber products, i.e. planer overhead router, band saw, mortise machine, cross cut saw, panel saw and lathes.

Undertake routine maintenance in wards and to communal areas as requested.

Make up signs by using the computerised sign making machine.
