Summary


Would you like to top up your existing qualification to become a Registered Mental Health Nurse?

This apprenticeship programme, is open to Registered Nursing Associates (RNA) & Assistant Practitioners (AP) who hold a Foundation Degree.

We would also welcome applications from Trainee Nursing Associates (TNA) and Trainee Assistant Practitioners (TAP), who will have completed their training and EPA (end point assessment). (TNA’s will also need to have received their NMC PIN’s prior to the programme start date of September 2024).

This will be our 5th ‘top up’ programme for Mental Health Pre-Reg Nurse Apprenticeships and this cohort is in partnership with The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), due to commence September 2024.

These posts are apprenticeship posts building upon your existing Nursing Associate Foundation Degree or Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree, through completing the 2 year ‘top up’ programme, qualifying as a NMC Registered Nurse in Mental Health. The course is fully funded.

Internal candidates will be on a Trust Secondment contract

External candidates will be on a Fixed Term contract

Interviews will take place on the 18th June at the Lantern Centre, Vicarage Lane, Fulwood, PR2 8DW.

During the apprenticeship you will develop skills and knowledge that will allow you to work in today’s dynamic and changing healthcare environment. You will experience working across a range of placements to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) practice learning requirements.

As an employee of Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS FT, you will demonstrate our values and once you have completed all the requirements for registration as a Mental Health Nurse and successfully passed the Apprenticeship end point assessment, you will be eligible for a Band 5 role as a Staff nurse within the Trust.





Please be advised if you are a ‘Non-UK National’ applicant you must meet the eligibility criteria and fulfil the settlement requirements of the apprenticeship course funding. Your settlement status will need to be verified as eligible for funding by the relevant apprenticeship provider in order for you to formally enrol on the course.

The training provider will require evidence of:
1. Remaining length of visa which covers the duration of the course
2. Minimum 3 years residing in the UK (pre-enrolment onto apprenticeship)

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.

You must have the original certificates for Maths, English and any qualifications needed to meet the entry requirements. Transcripts will not be accepted. If you are short listed you will not be offered an interview slot if we do not receive a copy of your original certificates.

If you are an existing member of staff, you will need to have agreement from your manager to apply for this post, as you’ll be on a Trust secondment contract, in the event of needing to withdraw from the programme.

Entry criteria:

· FDs Nursing Associate or FDs Assistant Practitioner including completion and passing of the end point assessment if this was completed via an apprenticeship route.

· Maths and English GCSEs Grade 4-9 (A-C) or equivalent

Your existing qualification with be assessed against the BSc Hons degree in Mental Health Nursing to undertake a shortened programme.

As part of your application to the programme, we will ask for an academic reference for your previous TNA / AP programme of study.
