Summary


St Mary’s is in the process of changing the Acute Medical Services for the population it serves in Northwest London. Therefore, an exciting opportunity has arisen for these 3 new roles that will provide the Acute Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care services at St Mary’s Hospital.

The successful applicants will work within the Division of Medicine and will be expected to help develop the new model to create an outstanding Acute Medical Team. The appointees will work closely and in partnership with the rest of the specialty medicine and Emergency Medicine teams

The post holder will work with other members of the team to ensure high quality acute and specialist medical services within the strategic framework agreed by the team. They will work closely with the other consultants who participate on the acute medical rota, notably Dr. George Tharakan (Acute Medicine/Endocrinology) and Dr. William Howson (Clinical Director; Gastroenterology/Acute Medicine). They will work closely with the appropriate clinical management teams.

The post holders are expected to be responsible for:

• Shared ward rounds of the acute medicine footprint.

• Assessment of new patients within the Emergency Department, AMU & SDEC unit

• Daily clinics in SDEC

• Up to 2 PAs of specialist workload in another medical specialty

Within the restrictions of this primarily clinical post, the post holder will be encouraged to participate in or develop research within the department.

The post holder will:
• Participate in business planning and objective setting processes where appropriate
• Represent the Trust at appropriate clinical networks/other external clinical meetings, as delegated by the Divisional management team

Administrative duties

The post holder will be expected to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of individual patients, and to contribute to the proper functioning of the clinical department, including involvement in audit and clinical governance.
