£32,000 - £47,000 plus benefits, including company car (Work Level 6A)
Manchester city centre, in this role you'll work in a hybrid way - splitting your time between home, supplying sites and the office. We're looking for a Technologist to join our Food Technical Team. You'll join a fast paced, exciting team whose main responsibility is to provide safe, legal, high quality food that excites and delights our consumers. You'll work within our Produce & Horticulture team, in a highly passionate, driven and supportive environment. You'll support our team aim of 'our produce has purpose', as we strive to make a positive impact for growers, customers, the environment, and our Co-op.


What you'll do
- Make sure produce is safe, of a high quality and meets legal requirements
- Own and drive the quality specification of Co-op brand produce, partnering with suppliers and category colleagues to ensure quality is defined and measurable for our customers
- Manage supplier performance by driving compliance to quality, safety, legal and ethical policies and processes; you'll proactively address under-performance within Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSOP) guidelines at all times
- Conduct ongoing assessment of the supply base to ensure we use suppliers whose competencies, capability, capacity, and alignment with our policy requirements meet or exceed customer expectations
- Work collaboratively with the category team to support the launch of new products, from product approval to specification and QAS signoff, following the Stage & Gate process
- Share expertise and identify solutions that drive innovation in category, and improvements in product quality, safety, and legality
- Identify and deliver shelf-life improvements, efficiencies, and value chain opportunities in the supply base to support the category commercial strategy


This role would suit people who have
- A food science/technology degree or relevant experience in Produce
- An understanding of the operational side of food retail
- Excellent people and networking skills
- Strong communication and influencing skills
- A co-operative and collaborative approach
