This is an exciting opportunity to join the Palliative Medicine team at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton as a Specialty Doctor.

The Specialist Palliative Care Service supports patients and their companions in a variety of settings. The department has a 20-bed specialist in-patient Nightingale Macmillan Unit (NMU); a Hospital Palliative Care Team at Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital, Burton; a Community Palliative Care Team; an Enhanced Nursing Home Beds for Palliative Care Service providing extra palliative care to nursing home placements; Ward 2, a general palliative care ward for people who are likely to be living the last weeks of their lives, at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital; and an End of Life Care Facilitator team.

The post is less than full time (0.8 WTE) with 1 weekend a month working Saturday and Sunday 9am to 3pm.

The successful candidate will be based on NMU providing holistic, person-centred inpatient care, as part of a specialist Multi-Disciplinary Team.

There is opportunity to develop clinical and non-clinical skills through protected study time, education meetings, teaching experience and audit, and opportunity to gain experience in the other areas of the service.

Candidates need full GMC registration with a licence to practice, a minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience including experience in Palliative Medicine or a specialty including palliative care.
• To provide daily care and management of patients on NMU
• Administrative tasks relating to patient care
• Weekend working on the Nightingale Macmillan Unit
• Supervision of junior doctors
• Teaching and education as part of the Palliative Medicine Education Department
• Active participation in Clinical Governance, audit and research activities.
• Keeping up to date and participating in relevant Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
• Participation in annual appraisals
