Fixed Term until the end of August 2025.

The DFN Project SEARCH programme provides real work experience for students with learning disabilities and/or autism.The programme takes place in a business setting where total immersion in the workplace facilitates the teaching and learning process through continuous feedback and acquisition of employability and competitive work skills.

It is a partnership between a host business, education provider and a supported employment provider.Job development is on-going throughout the year and is based on strengths, skills and interests. Interns are given support through on-the-job coaching and improvement strategies with the ultimate goal of paid employment and independence.

United Response will be working alongside Northumberland County Council and Northumberland Skills as the host business and education provider to deliver the programme.

Who we need-

The DFN Project Search Programme requires an enthusiastic and committed individual to support interns based at Northumberland County Council. The programme is for young people aged 17 to 24 who have an Education, Healthcare Plan (EHCP) and who are keen to gain experience in the various department within Northumberland County Council.

Making it Happen – Your role

The role of the Job Coach is to support young people in realising their aspirations to participate in work related activities and facilitate individuals’ progression into paid work.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with confidence and initiative who is comfortable working on a one-to-one basis and sometimes without direct supervision.

Working with challenging young people and helping them develop will be key so you will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

You will follow a bespoke timetable and will build positive relationships with the young person to promote interaction and a constructive learning environment.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic, enthusiastic team, totally committed to supporting the young people on the programme.

A full driving licence and access to a car are essential.
