The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will have a primary focus on training in oncoplastic breast surgery and the successful applicant will have a theatre session with a particular focus on advanced oncoplastic breast surgery training including post-mastectomy reconstruction, perforator flaps and therapeutic mammoplasty. The rest of the time will be spent in clinic-based activity, multidisciplinary meetings, teaching and specialist clinics.

There will be some requirement for service provision in the form of new patient clinics (1-stop / screening recall) or covering the operating theatre for consultant annual leave arrangements, providing opportunity for independent operating and consolidation of training with consultant oversight. There is no commitment to the General Surgery on-call rota or out-of-hours on-call commitment. However, you will be expected to provide support for the management of urgent and emergency breast cases during normal working hours. The duties will be in line with the trust and department’s commitment to have a sustainable, reliable and high-quality service in place that meets and exceeds the national standards. You can also apply to the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) for accreditation of the fellowship (cost involved). Support for CESR applications can also be provided if appropriate.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

This post is ideally suited to trainees who have completed or are near the end of their higher surgical training, are comfortable with performing the index procedures in breast surgery and want to build and consolidate their experience of oncoplastic breast surgery before taking on a consultant position. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver clinical excellence within the speciality of Breast Surgery. Although training will be provided all aspects of breast disease management, the focus will particularly be on specialised oncoplastic techniques including advanced breast conservation including mammoplasty, partial breast reconstruction using perforator flaps and complete autologous and implant-based breast reconstruction. A willingness to learn and work within a constantly changing environment is necessary, together with adaptability to clinical and service requirements.
