Job Overview:

The job sits within Care, which provides older people with high-quality nursing and residential care throughout the country. Homes offer a wide range of high-quality care options including respite, palliative, and specialist dementia care.
This profile is not an exhaustive list of duties and other activities may need to be carried out requiring similar skill levels.

Key Accountabilities

• Manage the quality and hygiene of the food cycle from preparation through to delivery, ensuring that all aspects of the service operate within organizational policies and procedures and comply with relevant regulations.
• Consult regularly with the resident group regarding menus and to receive feedback.
• Deliver Care home’s menu framework to ensure the delivery of high-quality catering services that cater to individual needs (including special diets) and location variation as required.
• Manage any special dietary requirements ensuring nutritional value whilst having responsibility for compliance with Allergen Regulations.
• Manage stock orders and supplies to ensure that menus can be delivered or are adjusted in case of shortages and the kitchen works within the relevant budgetary levels and in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures.
• Take ownership of the Food Safety Management System and be accountable for their team's understanding it.
• Ensure local and legislative procedures are followed so that resident’s needs are met and are in accordance with food hygiene and safety standards.
• Conduct and support the established risk assessment process, identify, and report any issues, ensuring safeguards are in the risk assessments and that equipment is kept in working order and used correctly so that a safe environment is maintained.
• Participate and contribute to the Home's H&S plan and the quality audit cycle ensuring ongoing development of the service.


Qualifications and Attainments

• Literacy and numeracy equivalent to at least GCSE Grade C English and Maths
• Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
• City and Guilds 706 Level 1/2 or NVQ2 in Professional Cookery.
Work Experience and Skills
• Proven experience in cooking/catering for large numbers
• Proven experience in working to deadlines and prioritizing workloads
• Experience in directly managing or supervising and developing staff.
• Proven practical experience in operating catering machinery.
• Experience in understanding Food Safety Management Systems
• Good understanding of written and spoken English
• Good communication skills
• Good interpersonal and customer care skills
• Basic Microsoft Word
• Basic Microsoft Excel
• Email and internet communications.
