Summary
Purpose of Post
1 To provide a holistic approach to the care of each individual child in the Nursery.
2 To work as a team within the Nursery.
3 To implement the nurseries policies and procedures.
Responsible to:
Management, Room Leader, senior staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Care and education
1 To contribute to the provision of a caring and stimulating environment that is appropriate for individual children and enables them to reach their full potential.
2 To assist with exciting play opportunities that meet the children’s developmental needs.
3 To observe and assess children’s development along with senior staff and help plan activities to support their development.
4 To provide a service that respects children’s life experiences and celebrates diversity in terms of language, culture, ability, race and religion.
5 To work within the agreed framework of the EYFS.
6 To managers discretion, observe and record a group of key children within your room and to assist others where needed.
7 To establish and maintain positive relationships with families in a way that values parental involvement.
Team work
8 To work effectively as part of a team.
9 To be flexible within working practices of nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, this will include staff meetings, training and other events.
10 To act as an ambassador of the organisation and maintain a positive image of its aims and objectives.
Policies and procedures
11 Ensuring that safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
12 Commitment to implementing the Equal Opportunities Policy
13 To be aware of the Code of Practice SEND 2014.
14 To be aware of the SEND policy; implement it in supporting children with additional needs and liaising with the SEND Coordinator.
15 To respect the confidentiality of information shared and received.
16 To ensure policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
17 Any other duties as required by Management.
18 Attend all necessary training courses set down by the nursery or training provider.
19 Ensure the staff code of conduct and staff handbook is strictly adhered to.
PERSON SPECIFICATION – QUALIFIED EARLY YEARS PRACTITIONER
Essential Desirable
Skills, aptitude, knowledge and experience
A commitment to the provision of high quality Knowledge of the new SEND code of childcare practice 2014
A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities
Creativity in devising new ideas and engaging the children in activities
Able to work in a team alongside qualified professionals.
Knowledge of EYFS
Personal qualities
Excellent communication skills Good organisational and planning
Patience, punctuality, reliability and skills trustworthiness Flexibility or adaptability
A positive approach to inclusive practice
Enthusiasm for working with children
Ability to work in a team
Qualifications
A full and relevant level 3 qualification Paediatric First Aid Certificate
Completion of Safeguarding Training
Food Hygiene Certificate

All successful candidates will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check and a medical questionnaire to ensure suitability to work with young children. We expect any convictions, cautions, court orders, reprimands and warnings, which may affect your suitability to work with children to be declared along with any medical history which may affect suitability.
