Crynodeb

The Health and Justice division of the specialist network is currently headquartered on the Prestwich hospital site and this is where office support and PA support would be located. There are several limbs to the clinical service including a probation hostel, secure children’s homes and a range of prisons throughout the northwest. These include male and female prisons, remand, open and training prisons. Each of these services provides a specific and tailor made mental health input. Individual models of care have developed in order to meet the needs of that service in collaboration with other providers including primary care, psychology and substance misuse.

We have a number of established and substantive clinicians providing input into the prisons and children’s homes, including a range of consultants who provide up to a day a week, alongside consultants, advanced practitioners, and specialty doctors who provide the majority of their job plans into the prisons. We have a prominent role in supporting placements for senior forensic trainees, general adult trainees and core trainees.

Our prison sites are located across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire. We have good links with local acute hospitals and psychiatric units including secure units in the area.

The postholder will be expected to work within the region as part of a health and justice medical team.

The postholder will receive orientation and induction and will be supported in accessing training in order to confidently embark on their role in these settings.

The postholder will be expected to support the management of mental health clinics, undertaking mental health assessments of prisoners who will be prioritised based on clinical need.

The postholder will be expected to contribute to other aspects of clinical pathway management within the prison including zoning meetings et cetera and will support the teams and managers in undertaking local investigations, management of complaints and any relevant quality improvement and other service development activities.

The post-holder will have strong links with the Specialist Services Care Group based at the Prestwich Hospital site and will receive support and supervision / line management from colleagues in the Health & Justice services.

The post-holder will be supported by a full team of prison healthcare staff – including mental health nurses, pharmacists, GPs and other allied staff.

Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 6,400 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 160 locations.
