Summary


The post holder will be a team member for the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Lewisham CAMHS Service. The success of this new role is based on the unique value volunteers have in supporting young people and their families – their ability to relate, build trust and offer support.The post holder will ensure that volunteers are supported to engage with CAMHS Users and families. The post holder will work closely with the CAMHS Lewisham staff team and the Volunteer Services Manager at the services in Lewisham. The post holder will ensure CAMHS Users and families are benefiting from being supported by volunteers.The post holder will reach out to the community to recruit volunteers, train volunteers and have a structured learning and support component to encourage volunteers to reflect and learn from their experience. The post holder will be an integral part of the CAMHS Lewisham Staff Team.



The main duties of the post will be to:
• To work with the Lewisham CAMHS Teams and the Volunteer Services Manager to engage and support volunteers to contribute to the team ethos, share skills and gain valuable experience.
• To work towards establishing and embedding volunteers in CAMHS Lewisham.
• Manage with the support from the volunteer services manager the recruitment and selection of the volunteers and offering feedback to unsuccessful applicants when needed.
• Support with events and activities in the local community to promote the project when needed.
• Hold information sessions for prospective volunteers during holiday periods and Saturdays.
• To facilitate group supervision, peer groups and one to one supervision sessions with volunteers.
• To design structured learning and development components to ensure volunteers are aware of the importance of boundaries in a mental health setting.
• To work closely with the volunteer manager and volunteer coordinators’ across the Trust to share good practise and support with the governance and administration of the Volunteer Service.
• To develop quality standards and guidance for staff included in the programme to support volunteers.

1. Deliver the volunteer programme
• Be the main point of contact and support for volunteers and relevant staff.
• Deliver regular co-produced induction training sessions for new volunteers.
• Plan and run bespoke training and other learning opportunities for volunteers to support them in their roles.
• Liaise with the SLaM Recovery College and opportunities for volunteers accessing courses.
• Work with the Volunteer Services Manager to record all information about the project. To use Assemble (bespoke Volunteer Software) to record all data on volunteering.
• To liaise with the Impact and Evaluation Manager on creating tools for CAMHS Lewisham.
• To work with the Volunteer Services manager to record data on volunteering now a legal requirement for NHS England.
• Be responsible for the ongoing management of the volunteers for the programme including resolution of any issues that arise and seek support as appropriate.
• Escalate any issues in relation to volunteer that pose a reputational, health and safety or safeguarding risk to the Volunteer Services Manager.
• Create a positive and encouraging environment for our volunteers.


1. General Duties and Building Relationships
• Represent the interests of, provide inspirational leadership for the volunteers, and play a part in supporting the patient experience across the Trust.
• Provide advice and support to staff supporting volunteer.
• Maintain accurate records and adhere to the Trust Data Protection obligations.
• To take part in the Volunteer Service and Charity meetings.
• Participate in regular supervision, yearly appraisals, objective setting and monitoring.
• Maintain an up to date knowledge and awareness of best practise and current issues in the voluntary sector specifically within the context of the NHS and mental healthcare provision.
• Work closely with the Lewisham CAMHS Staff Team and Volunteer Services Manager to manage and maintain an effective service.
