Summary


Newham Urgent Treatment Centre is seeking to appoint UTC Doctors with a commitment to high quality patient care and innovative service delivery to work in the Urgent Treatment Centre at Newham University Hospital. Recruitment of a dedicated team of Doctors is a critical component of our work force development plans for emergency care.

The Doctors will be fully embedded members of the emergency service team and will form an integral part of the implementation of our Urgent and Emergency Care strategy. Opportunities will exist, subject to agreement, for the development of urgent care education, innovation and research. These are outstanding opportunities for professional development.

The post will be available from a mutually agreed start date following successful interview. It is envisaged that the post will be full time.

The Doctors will work alongside experienced Emergency Nurse practitioners and GP’s in the Urgent Treatment Centre to see and treat, diagnose and discharge patients in a timely manner.

The centre sees between 1300-1500 patients per week with a range of minor illness, minor injury type patients.

Administrative support will be provided by the Service Delivery Manager and Administrative Assistant for the Urgent Treatment Centre.

• Assessment of patients principally with minor illness ( +/- minor injury depending on the individual Doctor’s training and skill set).
• Delivering high quality, safe, and effective clinical care
• Communicating effectively and compassionately with patients
• Working to ensure audits in key clinical areas are acted upon to improve clinical quality
• Working within a multi-disciplinary team and referring patients who require admission direct to inpatient services.
• Liaising with medical and nursing staff to optimise the flow of patients through the UTC and the emergency department, ensuring compliance within the 4-hour target, as set out in Care Quality indicators.
• Monitoring activity to ensure patient safety.
• Write clear, concise and contemporaneous patient focused medical records
• Practice with honesty and integrity and in full compliance with the GMC standards for good clinical practice.
• Ensuring that any reports, letters or other communications required by the Division, Trust, or other bodies (Police, HM Coroner, Risk management etc) relating to patient are completed in a timely fashion.

You will work within the bounds of your level of competence, and you will be fully supported by the Emergency Department and specialities. In addition the trust will consider request for additional training, tailored to the individual Doctor’s career development, and needs.
