We are looking for a new Consultant Psychiatrist to join our specialist CAMHS team based at the Milton Keynes Hospital Campus and in close proximity to the adult mental health teams and CNWL- MK Headquarters. Our large team is a passionate, well established group of professionals who pride themselves on their strong multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. They deliver excellent quality and NICE recommended interventions/treatments to the children and young people of our community, with positive feedback and compliments received on a regular basis.

This is an exciting time to be joining Milton Keynes Mental Health as we are rapidly growing and developing our teaching programmes. After very positive feedback from our August 2022 cohort of FY, GP and Core Trainees, the Deanery has increased our uptake with two more space for 2023. From March this year, we will also be welcoming our first cohort of 3rd year Medical Students, led by our newly appointed Director of Undergraduate Education.

To provide a service to children and young people with established or suspected psychiatric illnesses for diagnosis, treatment plan and follow up, mainly for out-patients and very occasionally advice and specialist consultation to young people admitted to inpatient services.

To provide a service to children and young people who have primary diagnosis of learning disabilities and mental health problems for diagnosis, management and continuing care.

To provide clinical support for children with diagnosis of neurodevelopmental conditions and where needed, clinical input for additional psychopathology.

To contribute to multidisciplinary assessment and management of behavioural impairment

To provide consultation and advice for complex clinical presentations requiring multidisciplinary input.

The post-holder will be expected to carry a full and varied caseload for this post requiring varying degree of input from consultant psychiatrists.

To develop a special clinical interest with the agreement of the Clinical Director.


To contribute to the development of the child and adolescent psychiatry team, with a focus on developing and providing clinical leadership for the team.


To undertake line management responsibilities and clinical supervision of up to two Specialty Doctors.

To be involved in the quality governance; including critical incident reviews and management of complaints.

To provide senior medical leadership and work closely with the management team

If interested, there is the additional offer of extra PA’s associated with this post to enable the post-holder to be the Medical Lead for the doctors and work in conjunction with the Senior Managers in shaping and developing the service. We are looking for someone who will be a strong leader of the medical cohort within the team and will offer supervision for the specialty doctors and the teams’ non-medical prescribers.

The Trust encourages all staff to use Quality Improvement (QI) methodology in their teams and so the post-holder will be offered training in QI. It is expected the post-holder will initiate projects within the service with both the managers and clinicians. A personal budget for CPD is allocated to each Consultant annually. There is also access to apply for CEA awards.

CNWL offers excellent professional support and career development options. The post-holder will be offered a place on the Management and Leadership Course run by the Trust in conjunction with Imperial College. The Trust also has a partnership with the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI), giving you the opportunity to gain knowledge in improvement science and enhance your skills and confidence to understand healthcare systems and successfully implement change.



Milton Keynes Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) covers the whole area of Milton Keynes with all referrals received into the single point of access in the service. This is believed to be the best way to give greatest flexibility in case management and provision of service to children, young people and their families and carers. The service caters for all mental health presentations as well as children with learning disabilities who have mental health needs. There are a number of treatment pathways within the team for intervention and the service is currently adopting the I-Thrive model.

Being part of a large and diverse London based Trust enables clinicians to access alternative learning and experience opportunities. This post-holder will have the opportunity to work closely with our colleagues in the London based CAMHS teams and (if desired) can spend up to one day per week working within one of these teams.

Please note, applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining the CCT and Approved Clinician Status.
