Summary

Applications are invited for Specialty Doctor GP in Emergency Medicine. This is a fixed term appointment in our new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). This post is suitable for candidates who have finished their training and are not on the GP register or those with relevant experience who are not yet on the register.

The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and treat patients with minor injuries and illnesses such as infections, sprains or bites – less serious injuries that are not critical or life-threatening but still require urgent attention.

The rota table shown on the job description is the current GP shifts available at each site. You will be expected to choose at least one shift from the below. No other hours/days will be considered.

The post has a strong learning and development component as well as service provision. Specialty Doctors on both sites are encouraged to participate fully in the educational opportunities afforded to them – 3 hours of weekly Foundation or in-house teaching programme, simulation training and exam preparation.

We actively encourage our Specialty Doctors to attend life support courses where possible and both time off for study leave and a study leave budget are available.

Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells Trust has two Emergency Departments. We see combined annually 150,000 patients. Tunbridge Wells is a purpose built Emergency Department seeing trauma patients regularly and has its own Helipad. There are plans currently to develop a separate Paediatric Emergency Department.

The Trust is situated in a picturesque area of Kent, with good transport links, excellent schools and varied leisure activities!

Our teaching programme has been very well received and we have an increasing number of candidates who have gone into or completed higher specialist training with us.

The departments are supervised by ED Consultants 08.00-22.00hrs, who are very supportive and enthusiastic in helping you develop your clinical, academic and leadership quality, whilst you are part of our team and beyond.

To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility.

To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.

To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust’s patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust’s strategic direction
