The Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh seeks to appoint an Outreach and Projects Coordinator to commence on 1 August 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Opportunity:

This is a unique and exciting role in a dynamic research centre working with a variety of partners and stakeholders from within and beyond the University of Edinburgh.

The HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World is an interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach centre at the University of Edinburgh, most closely associated to the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. The Edinburgh Alwaleed Centre is committed to encouraging a better understanding of contemporary Islam and the globalised Muslim world through ground-breaking research, dynamic teaching and innovative public engagement projects: www.alwaleed.ed.ac.uk

The Edinburgh Centre is part of a wider Alwaleed Cultural Network which brings together leading academic centres and cultural institutions spanning three continents: www.alwaleedculturalnetwork.org

The successful candidate will develop and deliver the Alwaleed Centre’s yearly programme of outreach events and activities aimed at promoting a better understanding of Islam and the Muslim world to audiences beyond the University of Edinburgh. They will also be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administration of the Centre including all financial transactions, procurement, travel and accommodation bookings for staff and visitors as well as the updating of the Centre’s website and social media.

The is a part-time role (21 hours per week) and is fixed term for a period of 22 months. The role combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
