About the programme: This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme (KTP) funded by Innovate UK (IUK). A KTP is a 3-way collaboration between a graduate (or post-graduate), a business (or not for profit organisation) and a university or research institution. KTPs are designed to deliver an innovation project and bring about lasting, transformative change. As a KTP Associate, you will lead the project with full support from company and academic supervisors, while benefiting from expert coaching and mentoring with one of IUK’s highly experienced Advisers.

The University of Hertfordshire wish to recruit a dynamic, highly skilled & qualified graduate to lead and deliver a project with Ortus Telematics Ltd to revolutionise emergency medical services through enhanced asset monitoring with live tracking, a unified vehicle system solution, and RFID data comparison. The KTP will create pioneering solutions making emergency services safer and more efficient using real-time monitoring of vital equipment, simplified vehicle management, and advanced data analysis. The KTP includes access to management skills training delivered by Ashorne Hill, in addition to a £4,000 training budget.

Main duties and responsibilities
The Associate will support the research team by undertaking research and development to develop a new product or service, attending and leading project meetings as required. You will handle data collection and analysis and contribute on the design and organisation of the project as well as work with academic team members on peer reviewed papers and presentations. You will be expected to disseminate the results and outputs of the project and ensure the collating and writing of final project are of a high standard. You will take an active part in the academic life of the School through participation in seminars and other similar events.

To ensure the successful delivery of our project, we seek an associate with a robust background in Electronics Engineering or a relevant discipline and proven experience in software development, with a foundational knowledge required for hardware integration within telematics solutions. Experience in both electronics engineering and software development is critical for the associate to bridge the gap between hardware and software components in the project. Practical exposure to real-world projects and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to industry challenges is highly desirable. The associate must demonstrate a keen interest in telematics, innovation, and a collaborative mindset to integrate seamlessly into our interdisciplinary team.

Skill and experience required
You will be methodical, have good attention to detail, able to work to deadlines as a team and independently, as well as be able to handle sensitive data with strict confidence. The successful candidate must have hands-on experience in a workshop environment, proficiency in electronics design, hardware integration and software development. Knowledge of programming languages including C++, Python and Java, is essential, knowledge of Node.js and AWS / Cloud computing usage is desirable. You will also be expected to carry out extensive hands-on testing.

We are seeking a highly qualified individual with a solid Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's degree. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in electronics design, hardware integration, and software development. The successful candidate will exhibit adaptability, strong problem-solving skills, and effective communication abilities, with proficiency in both written and verbal English. A proactive approach to learning and the ability to work independently are essential. A strong work ethic and dedication to excellence are paramount in this role.

Qualifications required
A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering or relevant discipline.
