Role Length: This opening assignment is for 5-6 months

The purpose of the role is to work under the supervision of the Consultant Social Worker/ Team Manager to engage with and provide direct support to the social work unit who are intervening children, young people and families.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as the first point of contact to professionals, service users and related staff to make initial judgements on the urgency and level of risk. Use specialist knowledge and technical expertise to respond, signpost and advise.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and general administration related to the team’s workload and the identified service users including the need to create the relevant administrative support for children and young people whose permanency plans may be for adoption. This will include supporting the Consultant Social Worker/Team Manager and the unit in achieving agreed performance targets, tracking case progress and relevant financial transactions, and FOI requests.
In collaboration with the social worker and the social work unit gather accurate personal information, contribute to the assessment and planning of strengths, needs and agreed goals for children, young people of families where there is statutory involvement.
Supported by your manager, adopt the principles of the team including its methodology and working practices.
Organise, under the instructions of the Consultant Social Worker/ Team Manager, key meetings under the Children in Need and Child Protection and Looked After Children Process and act as a key liaison point for families, multi-agency partners and children’s services.
Take minutes at key meetings when required by the Consultant Social Worker /Team Manager, distribute as requested.

Qualifications:

A good standard of educational and/or vocational qualifications, including English and maths at GCSE Grade A – C or equivalent.



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Good interpersonal skills including negotiating and influencing with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, families, colleagues and other relevant stakeholders.
Experience of working with people from different cultural backgrounds and/or speak a second language.
Attention to detail demonstrated through an accurate and methodical approach to work.
Ability to analyse information/requirements to ensure the most appropriate service(s) are provided.
Work flexibly as part of a team and also to work on own initiative with an assertive and proactive attitude to tasks.
Ability to organise time effectively, prioritising workloads and working to deadlines.
Able to work in a range of challenging environments including confrontational, offering empathy and care whilst maintaining appropriate communication.
A commitment to own continuous professional and personal development.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
