Summary

Care Assistant for a teenage girl living in the Consett area

Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: fb090b39

Care Assistant to provide care and support to our 16 year old disabled daughter (Ella-Rose) to access the wider community and take her to different places of interest/ appropriate social clubs that are suitable for her. The job also may involve looking after her as and when the need arises if work commitments do not allow us to be there during the school holidays or term time.

Ella-Rose currently attends Percy Hedley School in Newcastle Upon Tyne, however we live in the Consett area of County Durham. Having access to own car is a must as there may be travelling involved in picking up and dropping off from home.

Ella-Rose suffers with a rare genetic disorder called Dravet Syndrome which causes her to have different types of seizures which can occur at anytime and be triggered by anything. This condition is a very complex syndrome and can cause status seizures and potential serious complications. The successful candidate must be fully trained in first aid and be competent in providing emergency care (specifically within this condition), trained in giving buccal midazalom and follow the medical emergency plan laid out incase of a seizure (this will all be provided and written down along with a orange medical emergency bag with emergency rescue medicine inside). Our daughter also has global learning delay and has limited understanding of the vocabulary she uses. Which in turn she has limited understanding of your vocabulary so all directions and requests have to be kept to bitesize, and must always check she understands before progressing and if not choose words carefully for her to understand. However, this will change on any given day due to the nature of dravet, so something she may understand today she may not understand the following day. Therefore this makes Ella very vulnerable.

Ella is a very happy 16 year old who loves her football and her beloved Arsenal team, she also has a passion for singing and being on the stage as well as doing her 1000 piece puzzles. She is very chatty and outgoing once she get to know you, however her stranger danger awareness is low and this must be monitored at all times if going out into the wider community, as well as watching her when navigating the community/ streets. Ella can become over familiar with people very quickly so boundaries must be clearly laid out and stuck to so she understands what is acceptable and not acceptable behavior when outside with the person.
