Summary


We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Nursing Assistant to join our team on Ward 10/11 in Wansbeck General Hospital.

Our nurse-led unit is distinct in that we have several areas within the unit. We have 19 beds for elective orthopaedic surgery, 4 beds for patients requiring enhanced recovery post-surgery for up to 24 hours before stepping down to the main ward. We pride ourselves in being one of the leading units for day-case joint replacement surgery.

We also house the Bone and Joint Infection Unit for the trust, which is a specialist unit for patients with bone and joint infections. The unit is the only one of this kind in the north east, specialising in complex orthopaedic complications overseen by infection disease consultants and microbiology.

We pride ourselves on providing high-quality, person-centred care to our patients.

Full time (however part time hours may be considered)



The main purpose of the role is to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the multidisciplinary team under the supervision of the nurses and the ward manager.
• To assist the qualified nursing staff in the delivery of high quality direct and indirect patient care
• To provide assistance and support to patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team
• To maintain high clinical standards
• To help maintain a clean and safe ward environment



We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate.High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. • To assist the qualified nurses in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
• To give basic nursing care, e.g.; assistance with personal hygiene, eating and drinking, mobility needs, washing under direct or indirect supervision. Monitor patients observations and vital signs including fluid balance
• To report accurately perceived changes in a patients manner, observation, eating habits etc.
• To promote health within the ward setting.
• Organises own day to day work tasks or activities under supervision of qualified staff
• Able to respond to the changing needs of patients and ward routines.
