We are looking to find a Consultant Paediatrician to join our friendly team at Blackpool Teaching Hospital. We are a team of15 WTE consultants, delivering integrated care to Blackpool and the Fylde coast. The post is also an excellent opportunity for those with recent CCST or approaching CCST. The trust also offers a programme to new consultants that includes a well-designed leadership development programme that offers much consolidation of new skills to a recent CCST recipient. The trust also has an excellent CSSR programme, for those not yet on the Specialist Register.



The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering patient care to both Neonates and Paediatrics. The post involves a 1 in 9 Consultant of the Week rota, being responsible for patients under their direct care, and also those patients under consultant colleagues having current inpatient care. On call is non-resident 1 in 6. Safeguarding medical assessments currently sit under acute paediatrics.



All our consultants have a lead role to suit primarily their area of interest, but also the needs of the department. The department would be keen for an applicant with a neonatology or respiratory interest (including cystic fibrosis), however those with other areas of interest are still encouraged to apply. Support with be provided as required in developing as a lead, particularly for those who will be a new consultant.



AAC Interview will be Friday 28th June 2024.

A 2 PA allocation is given which includes both a 1 in 6 weekday rota for non-resident on call (prospective cover included) and 1 on 9 Consultant of the week duties, this includes 1 in 9 weekends.

During a 1 in 9 1st consultant of the week, all standard clinical activity is cancelled. The day starts with handover at 8.30 and handover in the afternoon finishes at 4.30pm. During this week the consultant is ‘on take’ and all new patients come under their care.

The following week is a 1 in 9 Second Consultant of the week. Routine activities are also cancelled, and this runs Monday – Friday 9 am - 1pm. During this week the consultant is not on take, but till 1pm supporting the 1stCOW, ensuring they always have 2 consultants available. Activities may include supporting with ward rounds, including the neonatal unit, discussing complex cases with other agencies, safeguarding assessments. From 1pm usual weekly duties continue. Weekend on call follows the Second Consultant of the week duties.
