Payroll Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Up to £32,292 per annum plus benefits

Here at Serco, we are seeking a Payroll Subject Matter Expert to join our payroll team who will be responsible for ensuring that all payrolls are delivered in accordance with payroll calendars and are legislatively compliant. Our UK Payroll Team is responsible for the accurate and timely payment of all UK based employees, and we have approximately 23,000 employees who are paid weekly, fortnightly, four weekly and monthly across several different PAYE registrations.

- Ensure all payrolls are delivered in accordance with payroll calendars and are legislatively compliant.
- Ensure all operational payroll data is input in a timely and accurate manner to Serco payrolls.
- Run HMRC processes out of the Resourcelink payroll software.
- Download HMRC files inbound/outbound files from HMRC.
- Ensure overall team objectives are met.
- Foster a culture of openness and honesty challenging inappropriate behaviour from others.
- Ensure employee overpayments and returned payments are recovered and paid in a timely manner.
- Ensure the team provide a quality customer service, including interacting with customers, answering customer enquiries, and effectively handling customer complains.
- Support the wider payroll team as necessary.

What you’ll need to do the role:

- Experience working in a Payroll SME role or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll processes and procedures in a similar sized organisation.
- Good knowledge of payroll legislation.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
- Ability to motivate and encourage Team Members.
- Ability to focus on results, work to deadlines and meet performance targets.
- Passionate about delivering a customer-focused service.
- Prior experience of using Resourcelink payroll system is desirable.
