Summary


London Renal Transplant Surgical Fellowship

We are inviting applications for an exciting 2-year specialised fellowship in renal transplantation. In addition to renal transplantation the fellowship provides experience in dialysis access surgery, pancreas transplantation and multi-organ retrieval.

This unique fellowship will provide exposure to two leading London transplant centres. One year spent atWest London Renal Transplant Centre (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust)and one year at theRoyal Free Renal Transplant Centre.

This post is ideal for those aiming to consolidate existing experience in renal transplantation. The successful candidate will join collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams in both centres and gain exposure to all aspects of pre- and post-transplant care, in living and deceased donation. This is a clinical fellowship. Additionally, fellows will be encouraged to complete and present audit and research output. There will be ample opportunity over the two years to present and publish, nationally and internationally.

WLRTC:

Clinical duties include ward exposure and the management of in-patients, outpatient clinics, ward rounds, radiological and transplant MDTs. The fellow will join a rota with the existing SpRs and Fellows covering the surgical Middle-grade on-call. The on call supplement is 50% (band 1a), resident on-call.





ROYAL FREE:

The on-call rota provides cover for both renal transplant surgery as well as the urology department on a 1 in 10 basis. The on-call commitments will therefore incorporate emergency transplant activity and surgical care of the renal failure population, as well as covering urological emergencies and out of hours urological care for patients. No previous experience of urology is required as close support is given by the urology consultant staff. This rota will be EWTD and New Deal compliant. The candidate will also be expected to cover elective and emergency in-patient and day case surgery, general, Transplant, out-patient clinics and regular ward work.

West London Renal Transplant Centre (WLRTC)

WLRTC provides outstanding clinical experience in complex renal transplantation as well as exposure to expertise in pancreas transplantation. The fellowship encompasses significant experience in the provision of vascular access and peritoneal dialysis surgical procedures.

The fellow will gain substantial experience in deceased donor offer evaluation and acceptance. Operative experience will include living and deceased donor transplantation, laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy, general surgery (hernias/ polycystic nephrectomy) and transplant nephrectomy. Outpatient experience includes recipient evaluation, living donor evaluation and post-transplant clinics.

The Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust



The surgical team provides live- and deceased-donor renal transplantation, dialysis access, and general surgery for patients with renal failure. In addition, there will be significant exposure to multi-organ abdominal retrieval surgery. The post also includes responsibility for the supervision and training of the junior staff and teaching medical students.



The post holder will have the following duties:

· Out-patient clinics – assessment of CKD patients requiring vascular access or peritoneal dialysis and work-up for renal transplantation

· In-patient and day case operating lists

· Care of renal transplant in-patients

· Attendance and presentations at multidisciplinary meetings

· Participation in the audit and governance activities of the department
