Summary

A Vacancy at Barking Havering and Redbridge Univ Hospitals NHS Trust.

Our Trust is embarking on a journey of improvement, both in the care we deliver to patients and the experiences of our staff. We’re themost improved trust in Englandfor four hour performance over the last year and our recently launchedNo Abuse No Excuse campaignreceived media interest around the world. These are exactly the sort of things you’ll be working on as a Senior Communications Officer.

Focusing on internal communications and campaigns, you'll deliver a wide range of projects, from rewarding and recognising colleagues through our various awards and celebrations, encouraging staff to complete the annual NHS Staff Survey and playing a leading role in organising and promoting ourstaff thank you events.

Informed and valued staff provide better care to our patients. With that in mind, you’ll advise staff on how to communicate with and engage colleagues, play a direct role in sharing important clinical and operational information across different channels and work with the teams that bring our organisation to life including colleagues in EDI, staff experience and engagement, and education and training.

If you’ve got experience of delivering engaging multi-channel campaigns and creating content for a wide range of audiences and can provide fresh ideas and enthusiasm that will make a real difference in our Trust, then we’d love to hear from you.

Supporting the Communications Manager, you will be responsible for all things internal communications, including advising our staff how best to share their news and engage their target audience, adapting content easily to suit the audience.

We have a range of internal communications channels, including screensavers and virtual engagement events and you will manage these and improve how we use them. You’ll also identify opportunities to improve how we reach and engage staff, the majority of whom aren’t sat at desks.

You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating a range of staff engagement projects and Trust-wide campaigns to enhance staff experience.

You’ll need to be an excellent writer, capable of taking complex information and making it both simple to understand and accessible, while also being equally adept at filming and editing videos and using design software to create content for digital platforms.

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
