Job Description

Working as part of the Early Years team within our school nurseries, you will contribute to the development and wellbeing of young children. You will have a positive and nurturing approach and the enthusiasm and commitment to work toward an SVQ qualification in Social Services (Children & Young People) at SCQF Level 7 (also known as SVQ Level 3), over 2 years. We have 10 vacancies in school nurseries across Aberdeenshire:-

  • Buchanhaven Primary Nursery (Peterhead cluster) - all year*
  • Crimond Primary School (Fraserburgh cluster) - term time*
  • Elrick Primary Nursery (Westhill cluster) - all year*
  • Fyvie Primary Nursery (Turriff cluster) – term time*
  • Hillside Primary Nursery (Portlethen cluster) – all year*
  • Kemnay Primary Nursery (Kemnay cluster) – all year*
  • Kintore Primary Nursery
  • Laurencekirk Primary Nursery (Laurencekirk cluster) – all year*
  • Mintlaw Primary Nursery (Mintlaw cluster) – term time*
  • New Deer Nursery (Mintlaw cluster) - term time*

*All positions will be 36.25 hrs (Mon-Fri) between the hours of 8.00am-6.00pm, however, this may vary between schools.

Aberdeenshire Council is committed to increasing the opportunities in the local area by providing Modern Apprenticeships (MA's). Training and Qualifications gained through this apprenticeship are partly funded through Skills Development Scotland (SDS).

The apprenticeship allows you to gain skills, experience, and knowledge in the world of work as well as gaining a formal qualification. Successful candidates will be placed on a SDS approved programme of training, undertaking the SVQ in Social Services (Children & Young People) at SCQF Level 7. Academic achievement to Scottish National Level 5, Standard Grades, or equivalent qualifications one of which must be English is essential. Relevant experience with children would also be desirable.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Interviews will be held the week beginning 24th of June 2024.
