About the role:
Activate Learning are now looking for enthusiastic and inspiring teacher to join our Academic Studies team at Reading College on a casual basis.
This post provides an excellent opportunity for a teacher with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students to unlock their potential and switch on to the power of learning. Alternatively, this could be an ideal development opportunity for a newly qualified teacher or English graduate looking to get into teaching.
This is a permanent, casual position, up to 5 hours per week based at our Reading College campus.
What do you need to be a successful English Teacher at Activate Learning?
We are looking for people who can act as role models for our students and ensure that they leave us with not just their professional qualifications, but the attributes required to progress in the world of work. A genuine interest in working with and developing young people is a requirement.
Understanding the importance of tailoring our teaching methods to meet the needs of all learners is essential. When working with our GCSE learners, it's essential to use strategies that promote engagement, accommodate diverse learning styles, and build a strong foundation for academic growth.
Previous teaching experience in the FE sector would be an advantage, but it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications or experience to teach on our courses and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

An ability to teach English and a background with SEN learners or alternative provisions would be beneficial.
Level 3 or above qualification in Maths and English or relevant qualification is essential.
It is desirable if you have a teaching qualification and worked within education as a teacher, but this is not essential.

Your communication and interpersonal skills will be outstanding and support your ability to deliver interesting and purposeful lessons to a diverse range of learners. You will also have strong organisation skills coupled with the ability to prioritise workloads and will benefit from being part of a supportive team, working in a varied and interesting role with a variety of opportunities for career development.
