Senior Clinical Fellows in Trauma and Adult Critical Care

St George’s Hospital is the primary teaching hospital and the regional major trauma centre in south-west London and provides all of the tertiary specialities. Clinical fellows are required to work as part of the critical care medical and multidisciplinary team. Successful candidate will be based on General Intensive Care and will be part of a 9 person on-call rota. They will attend major trauma calls in the Emergency Department aiming to lead the trauma calls as they become more experienced. They will act as critical care liaison with the major trauma team and be involved with major trauma research, teaching and governance. Candidates that have completed their specialist training can gain great experience and build up their skills with a view to future consultant appointment. The applicant should either be a trainee at registrar level or equivalent (ST3-4+) in anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, accident and emergency medicine OR have a CCT in one of these specialities. Applicants should have registrar level experience in Intensive Care and be ready to work at this level with the supervision and help of a Consultant available 24/7. This job is ideal for doctors wishing to gain experience in one of the busiest Intensive Care departments and Trauma Units in Europe. The experience gained will be beneficial to trainees wishing to pursue a wide variety of career aims.

This is a 21 bed facility admitting over 1500 adult general medical, surgical and trauma patients per year and able to provide the full spectrum of respiratory, cardiovascular and renal support. The post holder will assist with the management of patients with severe polytrauma, post-operative high risk surgical cases and patients with severe medical conditions requiring organ support. The clinical fellow in General ICU is usually the first point of contact for patients that may require intensive care admission on wards or in the emergency department. The successful candidate will be able to develop the necessary skills to see patient referrals and evaluate where, how and when to admit a deteriorating patient and how to stabilise and manage the patient in ICU. They will also be responsible for direct liaison between critical care and the major trauma team. During day shifts the post holder will attend the daily trauma meeting and have the opportunity to attend major trauma calls, following major trauma patients to interventional radiology and theatre. The fellow will always be working under the supervision of a General ICU Consultant. General ICU is a busy unit with plenty ofresearch and educational activities that form part of a structured educational program that successful candidates will participate in. They will be involved in trauma research, teaching and governance.

· The post holder will be required to participate in clinical governance activities within the service centre.



· The post holder will be expected to observe the trust’s agreed policies and procedures drawn up with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of St Georges Hospital.
