Acorn by Synergie is recruiting on behalf of a public sector client for a Mechanical Engineer. The role is to provide a high quality, commercially cost effective and reliable plant maintenance service to all fleet and asses any Hand Arm Vibration issues.

Providing key support services which involves the provision, repair, maintenance of fleet and other specialist plant equipment. Including, winter maintenance gritters, traffic management vehicles, crash cushions. All which is carried out in our own in-house fleet workshops based in Raglan.

Responsibilities:

  • To fully prepare Plant for routine inspection and testing inclusive of Hand Arm Vibration testing.
  • To test Plant and equipment to appropriate manufactures standards inclusive of vibration levels and any LOLER standards.
  • To report orally and in writing upon the completion of Safety Inspection checklists and Job cards, the condition, operational fitness and roadworthiness of Plant and equipment ensuring any neglect or misuse to be reported to the Senior Plant fitter.
  • At all times to complete and submit all Safety Inspection Checklists, Job cards, stores requisitions, attendance records, holiday requests or any other relevant documentation in a clear, legible, and accurate and timely manner.
  • To ensure all Plant and equipment once the work is completed are subsequently locked, parked and secured appropriately in bays and notified to relevant departments/companies and on collection or delivery the item is signed out.
  • To carry out electrical fault diagnostics, maintenance and repairs for plant equipment using appropriate diagnostic methods and equipment.
  • To undertake electrical / Hydraulic and mechanical installation of accessories and ancillary equipment on a wide variety of equipment and plant.
  • To service, overhaul or replace parts and equipment on plant, making use of the necessary tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner.
  • To assist the Senior Plant Fitter / Workshop manager, when necessary, with the identification of parts using relevant parts catalogues etc.
  • When required will collect, deliver vehicles, spare parts from / to internal and or external organisations.
  • To take responsibility for the post holders own and fellow work colleague health, safety and welfare; ensuring all work areas are kept clean and free from oil spillages at all times.
  • To assist senior plant fitter with Plant check lists and servicing programmes.
  • Maintain future digitisation of stores and job cards.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Minimum level 2 Diploma In land-based Engineering Operation or City and Guilds and be able to demonstrate significant relevant experience.
  • Experience of servicing, inspection, and repair of all small plant and large plant to include horticultural, agricultural and highway petrol, diesel and battery equipment.
  • Experience in operation plant and Highway vehicles to include Impact protection lorry (buffers lorries) and gritter bodies.
  • Good knowledge and experience of hydraulic systems
  • Good knowledge and experience in electrical systems to include battery operated plant.
  • To be able to promptly identify repairs and prescribe method of rectification.
  • Must be skilled in the use of Garage ramps, specialist tools and equipment, power and hand tools.
  • Hold a full current car driving licence.
  • Hold a current HGV class licence.
  • Hold a current class D1 driving licence.

General:

  • To be methodical in the approach to fault diagnosis
  • Knowledge of gas and arc / MIG welding
  • Have a good basic IT knowledge to include working with Excel.
  • Be able to identify the correct spare parts necessary to repair vehicles and requisition as required.
  • To have the ability and initiative to work without constant supervision.
  • To be highly motivated and participate in meeting established performance targets and maximising workshop efficiency.
  • Commitment to own personal development.
  • Ability to forge good working relationships with team members and external agencies.
