Summary

Are you interested in working with a pioneering academic team delivering a multimillion-pound research initiative?

We are looking for an experienced, skilled and dynamic Operations Manager for the Observatory for Mathematical Education. The Observatory is a collaboration between the University's School of Education and School of Mathematical Sciences. It has an ambitious ten-year programme of research, development and influencing that will support the improvement of mathematics education and accrue long-term benefits for individuals and society.

As someone who is self-motivated and experienced in motivating and leading teams, owning and driving projects, and establishing robust processes, you will be integral to the Observatory's success.

You will join an integrated team of academic and operational staff working collaboratively and creatively to deliver the largest ever research study into mathematics education in England. With the support of the Senior Operations Manager, you will take responsibility for a diverse portfolio of activities, and line manage a small team of operational staff supporting research and delivering the day-to-day operation of the Observatory. You will be responsible for the Observatory’s secure data lab, managing its bespoke database, and the secure transfer of data to and from research partners, so some previous experience of data management is essential.

Your excellent communication skills, proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and excellent customer relationship skills will enable you to collaborate effectively with both internal and external colleagues and stakeholders. You will work well in a team, be highly organised and flexible, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced and varied environment. In return, we offer a competitive employment package to support your wellbeing and professional development. You will receive an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including highly attractive pension and holiday allowance (30 days in addition to Bank Holiday and University closure days). You can find out about these benefits here.

Excited by the opportunities of this role but concerned that you don’t meet every single requirement? We encourage you to apply anyway as we know that a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace is not only a better place to work but also produces higher-quality solutions.

The role is permanent with underlying funding position, available until 17th October 2028. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Arrangements for job share may be considered.

A hybrid working arrangement with blended approach of office and home working each week is possible with agreement.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to the Observatory’s Senior Operations Manager Dawn Holt, email dawn.holt@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
