Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and enthusiastic individual to start a career in the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) team here at Staffordshire County Council.

The team looks after approximately 600 ITS assets across Staffordshire to ensure that roads and footways are safe and accessible for road users and communities. The assets include Traffic Signals, Vehicle Activated Signs, CCTV and other ITS related equipment placed upon the Highway. In addition to maintaining the existing ITS assets, the team ensure that new ITS assets on developments and road improvements meet the correct standards and are properly installed.

The ITS sector is innovative and continues to make technological advances. We are currently replacing all halogen signal heads to LED. This will generate significant savings in energy consumption and carbon emissions and reduce maintenance. There will be further technological developments in the sector as the move to vehicle electrification and automation intensifies.

Main Responsibilities

You will:

  • Provide support to the ITS team by assisting with the management, operation, design and development of the range of functions undertaken by the team.
  • Follow a structured training programme to develop your knowledge and skills in the field of ITS, enabling progression in the team in future.

The team sits within the highways department working in partnership with Swarco and Amey LG to deliver the majority of its highway operations. This will provide you with both public and private sector experience.

The Ideal Candidate

You will need to be:

  • Motivated
  • Organised
  • Able to prioritise
  • Have a good level of computer literacy and attention to detail
  • Experience in ITS is not required, but a technical background is helpful

This role requires the ability to travel across Staffordshire and occasionally outside of Staffordshire. A Casual Car User allowance will apply to the role.

The role is primarily based at the Stafford office; however, some flexible working will be permitted as part of this role by agreement with your line manager.

Closing Date: Sunday 16th June 2024

Interview Date: Wednesday 26th June 2024
