Summary

We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a technical assistant within our Surgical Skills Centre, to provide technical support for the delivery of high-quality procedure based skills courses. Within this role you will assist with the day to day running of the laboratory area and support delivery of all courses within the centre. Under the direction of the lead technician, you will be on hand to ensure courses run smoothly and consumable and equipment needs are met. Together with the laboratory technician you will develop and prepare complex animal tissue models and position Thiel cadavers as required. This is a fixed-term appointment for12 months in the first instance.

Your priorities will include:



  • Preparation and organisation of laboratories for core postgraduate surgical skills courses. This requires setting up of surgical laboratory areas, moving specialist equipment, dismantling, and cleaning of specialist equipment and furnishings and restoring laboratory to original state once


course has ended



  • Assist the technical team in laboratory set up of Thiel cadaveric courses (including delivery and uplift of cadavers)

  • Assess the biological tissue needs for specific courses and decide how much and when to collect this, in collaboration with the Senior Technician.

  • Technical support during courses to both teaching staff and course delegates

  • Provide cross cover technical assistance as required

  • proactive in responding to the needs of staff and students

  • Good organisational skills

  • Ability to work under direction

  • Ability to work on both human and animal tissue
