Summary

BrightStore is seeking an operations manager to be responsible for the ordering, and distribution of surplus and ambient food for the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

To maintain high health and safety standards at all times, and ensure all BrightStore storage meets health and safety standards.
Responsibility for ambient food ordering and adherence to the budget
Management of stock levels at our storage facilities
Responsibility for stock control and stock rotation, working alongside Store Leads to ensure compliance
Delivery of bulk stock from storage facilities to BrightStore stores
Oversight of all surplus food collections, including occasional out of hours responses (e.g., for Neighbourly notifications)
Driving to collect surplus food from various locations across Brighton and Hove
Research and development of new possibilities for food procurement
Maintenance of relationships already in place
Liaison where necessary with Store Leads and volunteers at all sites
Other ad-hoc driving/ delivering as required, e,g., to deliver shopping to housebound members
Emergency cover for Store Leads, and volunteer drivers where necessary, time off in lieu will be offered
Record keeping for the maintenance of delivery vehicles in use (insurance, MOT & tax) in conjunction with leadership team Person Specification

Fit and able to carry heavy loads
Competent driver with a clean driving licence
Self reliant
Able to manage own time
methodical and organised
Good team working skills
Capable of building relationships and personable
Able to keep to a budget and good record keeping skills
Able to use online ordering systems and Google Workspace
Interest in alternative food systems
Passionate about making the world a better place and caring for our environment!
Commitment to Equalities and Inclusive practice
Desirable:
Experience in the area of surplus or emergency food, or the social sector
Experience with stock control and ordering
Experience working for a not for profit
Experience working with volunteers
