Summary

TeacherActive are currently working in partnership with Kent County Council and Medway Council to provide Learning Mentors to support young people with complex special educational needs that are currently out of education.

As a Learning Mentor you will be working with students that have SEMH and ASD needs, within their home or public setting, for a set amount of hours per week.

Due to the nature and the complexities that are attached to each referral, the demands and expectations of each role are unique to each individual case. There is often a particular focus on improving Numeracy and literacy skills with each referral.

As a Learning Mentor with TeacherActive you will need to have;

• Experience working with students 1:1 or in small groups

• Confidence in working independently in the home or other venues

• Ability to connect with children and families effectively and build trusting relationships

• Excellent KS3/KS4 curriculum knowledge

• Ability to differentiate curriculum in a creative and bespoke manner

• Experience with and understanding of working with SEMH/SEN

• An undergraduate degree, and/or prior experience working alongside pupils with SEND

• Good general education levels in English and Maths

• Knowledge, keen interest or understanding of the range of different types of learning difficulties and disabilities (SEMH, ASC, challenging behaviour)

• Ability to adapt to various working environments and students with differing abilities

• Practical approach to the needs of students with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities

• Good interpersonal and communication skill and a caring attitude

• Flexibility in terms of working patterns
