An exciting opportunity has arisen within our busy Genomics Laboratory for a well-organised and experienced individual to lead and manage the FISH and Pyrosequencing team within our wet laboratory.

We are looking for a Technical Team Lead who can demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the role of genomic testing in rare disease, Haemato-oncological and solid tumour cancer diagnosis.

The knowledge and technical skills required are:

• Direct sample, cultured cell and FFPE tissue preparation for FISH testing
• The principles of FISH and methylation testing
• The importance of quality preparations to aid in analysis.
• Service improvement and quality management in a UKAS Accredited laboratory is highly desirable.

Strong leadership and communication skills are essential to managing the workload of the section and liaising with clinical scientists, other technical leads and support staff.

The Laboratory is part of the East NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub (EGLH). This is one of seven Genomic Hubs established to provide the National Genomic Medicine Service for NHS England, led by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and working with Nottingham University Hospital and University Hospital Leicester.
• Act as the accountable Lead for the FISH technical section of the GLH Laboratory; including managing the staff, equipment and processes within it.
• Manages and coordinates the day to day activities associated within a specific technical section.
• Leads on service improvement and staff development necessary to address the changing needs of the GLH.
• Computer manipulation and analysis of data for diagnostic tests.
• Maintain or work towards attaining AHCS or HCPC registration.
