Summary
EBME is a specialist team engaged in overseeing all aspects of medical equipment management, which spans from research, design and installation, through to maintenance and eventual disposal.
Incorporated within EBME, is the Medical Equipment Library (MEL): whose primary focus is distributing medical devices where needed, in a timely, patient-centered manner.
MEL’s opening times are:
▪ 08:00 to 20:00 - Monday to Friday; and
▪ 09:00 to 17:00 - Weekends and Bank Holidays
Primarily based at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospitals, the post holder will undertake routine duties that help the day-to-day operation of Medical Equipment Library Services.
Together with the MEL supervisor, he/she will ensure the provision of a customer focused, cost-effective and efficient service. Responsibilities include decontamination, prompt delivery and collection of equipment/consumables to clinical areas of the Trust and maintaining accurate records of the same.

Undertake operational duties of the Medical Equipment Library in conjunction with departmental and Trust policies. This includes regular visits to wards and departments for delivering, collecting and cleaning medical devices.
Clean equipment prior to re-issue or repair and to ensure the equipment is properly decontaminated in accordance with Trust Policy and manufacturers’ recommendations.
Deliver consumables to Wards and Departments across the Trust, which are supported by the Medical Equipment Library.
4.4 Maintain correct equipment records and patient data necessary for the effective operation of the equipment tracking and management systems; adhering to the Trust’s confidentiality policies when entering patient information.
Use I.T. based systems to manage equipment bookings, patient information and stock levels of consumables
Promote teamwork and versatility within the department. Where necessary, be flexible with working hours and shift patterns to suit the needs of the service.
