Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the Bereavement Services Team here at Oxford University Hospitals NHS FT. They will also be working closely with the Medical Examiner Office

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

Bereavement Services are looking to appoint a Bereavement Officer/ Medical Examiner Officer to work in the Bereavement Office based in the John Radcliffe Hospital. The successful applicant will be a people person - caring, methodical , calm under pressure, IT literate, able to cope with change in demands and most importantly a team player.

The role of the Medical Examiner Officer ( MEO) is to support the medical examiners in their role in scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death, and to be a point of contact for the Coroners office and Registration services. The MEO will also be a source of advice for relatives of deceased patients and healthcare professionals

Good interpersonal and telephone skills are essential as the job involves daily contact with anxious bereaved families, funeral directors, and the Coroner’s office.

The office is very busy, mentally taxing and sometimes emotionally demanding.

The successful candidate will need a good eye for detail and accurate record keeping.

This is a role that may be of interest to persons with a diploma or degree in professional nursing studies. The successful applicant will be required to complete the Medical Examiner training and attain accreditation in the role
