The Role:

The Alan Ansell Research Aquarium at SAMS hosts a broad range of constantly changing projects in the areas of research, enterprise and education.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for marine science, to join us in helping to deliver the operational aspects of these projects, as well as involvement with the day-to-day monitoring and running of the aquarium.

The role will involve highly rewarding work, carried out closely with several leading researchers. In addition, you will liaise with researchers regarding future projects and ongoing experiments and will assist the Aquarium Manager in monitoring, maintaining, and making alterations of aquarium infrastructure. There will be considerable opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and skills around the effective and safe functioning of a research aquarium.

A high level of self-motivation and diligence is necessary, and an ability to work to instruction or independently, as needed, is required.

A relevant degree (or equivalent experience) is required but ability to analyse, rapidly diagnose and solve problems is also important.

Good communication skills are essential, as there will be a range of work carried out with different individuals.

Working at SAMS:
