Summary

We are looking for a Housing Enforcement Officer, based in Northamptonshire. You must have Qualifications and Previous Experience.

Job Title: Housing Enforcement Officer
Location: Northamptonshire
Contract: Temporary (initially 3 months, potential extension)
Hours: 37 per week
Pay: £30-35 per hour

Purpose:
Improve housing conditions in West Northamptonshire and regulate landlord behavior through advice, licensing, and enforcement actions.
Provide high-quality advice and enforcement for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) to ensure safety and compliance.

Main Duties:
-Conduct property inspections, draft schedules of work, and serve notices for enforcement actions.
-Collaborate with HMO owners/managers to ensure compliance with regulations.
-Investigate complaints about disrepair and housing-related issues promptly.
-Foster partnerships with various organisations for efficient problem-solving.
-Work with teams to tackle harassment, prevent homelessness, and ensure housing law compliance.
-Identify and target unlicensed or hazardous HMOs for inspection.
-Stay updated on housing enforcement developments and legislation.
-Contribute to initiatives improving housing conditions and reducing overcrowding.
-Maximise productivity and manage information efficiently.
Challenge discriminatory practices and ensure health and safety.

Qualifications:
-Qualified Housing Enforcement Officer, with a relevant Degree; or proven relevant Private Sector Housing enforcement experience
-Full driving licence and access to own transport.

Experience:
-Experience in regulating private sector housing standards and enforcement.
-Experience in producing enforcement cases and operating HMO licensing schemes.

Knowledge:
-In-depth understanding of housing legislation and enforcement powers.
-Familiarity with wider enforcement options for housing standards improvement.

Skills:
-Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
Ability to prioritise, analyse data, and suggest improvements.
-Proficiency in Office 365 and relevant IT applications.
