Summary


We are looking to recruit three Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians who have an interest in pharmacy, and are keen to undertake further study which will lead to eligibility to register with General Pharmaceutical Council as a Registered Pharmacy Technician. Responsibilities include dispensing medicines, preparing medication, ordering medicines and providing excellent quality work to patients at all times.
We have an automated dispensary and stores which enables our staff to take on patient focused roles. This is both a physically and mentally demanding role where you will need the ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining accuracy.

Upon appointment successful candidates will complete a 2 year training post in Pharmacy, which involves remote day release to Bradford college to study towards BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians
You must be willing to work hard, including studying in your own time, manage your work load and meet all deadlines set by the college to gain this qualification.

To be considered you MUST hold at least four GCSEs at grade 4-9 (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics, and Science or similar qualifications

To receive, validate, prioritise and dispense prescriptions in a timely and accurate manner for patients on wards and departments at Blackpool Teaching hospitals, ensuring SOP’s are followed maintaining high standards and keeping errors to a minimum.

To issue controlled drugs to wards and departments making appropriate records in controlled drug registers and maintaining security according to SOP’s.
To prepare extemporaneous products according to SOP’s
Accurately perform calculations to determine volumes of drugs and correct doses of medicines.
To visit specified wards at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and assess patients own drugs for suitability for use on the ward in accordance with the departmental procedure.
To liaise with patients with regard to the use of their drugs at home and on the ward and receive consent for their use.
To liaise with ward staff with regard to problems with patients own medicines and to discuss ways in which any problems can be overcome.
To liaise with the ward pharmacist with regard to any discrepancies found in the patient’s own medicines and those prescribed on the patients prescription to ensure the patient is receiving the correct medication
To participate in the purchasing, receipt & storage of stock into the department.

To visit wards to undertake stock replenishment duties ensuring wards have sufficient in-date stock to meet their patient needs

A two-year fixed term contract gaining appropriate training and experience in the provision of pharmaceutical services within each section of the pharmacy, under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy. Demonstrating competence identified in BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians. To provide high quality accurately dispensed medicines, and products manufactured extemporaneously to patients, wards and departments at Blackpool Teaching hospitals. The post holder will be expected to rotate into different areas of the department as required.
