Hours: 37 Hours Per Week (Ad Hoc Shift)
Initial Start Date: ASAP

Job Purpose:

-To work in conjunction with the ward and kitchen to provide a high-quality, helpful, and courteous service to patients and staff.
-To include the preparation of food cooked to order using fresh ingredients.
Service and presentation of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and hospitality.
-To ensure all work undertaken is in line with health, safety, security, and company policies and procedures.

Main Duties:

-Prepare, cook, and present food for patients and staff breakfast, lunch, and dinner following agreed recipes and standards by the hospital.
-To maintain a healthy, safe, and secure environment in line with current legislation and company policies and procedures.
-To assist with menu planning and menu development.
Plan the production of special diets in accordance with standard recipes as advised by ward-based teams and hospital requests.
-To carry out all tasks with due regard to Health and Safety, food safety regulations, and all legislation.
-Direction and supervision of kitchen production. Ensuring stock controls and rotation procedures are maintained.
-Ensure that the area of work is clean and tidy at all times.
-To ensure correct materials and methods are used at all times and equipment is kept clean and in good working order. Report faulty machinery/equipment immediately.
-Ensure utilisation of staff, food, materials, and equipment in an efficient manner.
-Ensure all food goes out to patients, visitors, and staff at agreed times.
-The correct use of the recipe file and assisting in its review and compilation as required.
-Accurately record all food wastage and report to Head Chef or Catering Service Manager as applicable.
-Check dates on food and dispose of any food which has expired its use by or best before date.
-Assist with the receipt of stock from deliveries and catering services.

Qualifications:

Essential:
-City & Guilds 1 & 2 Catering or NVQ equivalent NVQ level 3
-Knowledge of special dietary requirements
-Good numeracy and literacy skills
-Basic Food Hygiene Certificate

Desirable:
-Intermediate Food Hygiene IOSH Managing Safely

Experience:

Essential:
-Proven catering experience
-Knowledge of HACCP

Desirable:
-Working within healthcare
-Knowledge/previous experience of health and safety
-Knowledge of legislation – The Food Act 1990
-Food Hygiene Regulations 1995
