UHDB provides care to a range of specialities including colorectal, upper GI, vascular, urology and head and neck across our surgical wards. We have developed a range of Advanced pharmacist roles across the surgical division and are highly regarding as the experts in medicines management. Pharmacists are actively encouraged to participate in MDT working via attendance on ward rounds and the development of policies and guidelines.

An opportunity has arisen to join our Surgical Pharmacy team supporting our Head, Neck and Ophthalmology business unit. The post holder would act as a key pharmacy contact for the business unit supporting with a range of clinical and operational projects whilst also acting as part of the senior pharmacist team supporting the wider Surgical Division.

Our Head and Neck inpatient ward includes a HDU area supporting patients with tracheostomies and as part of this role there will be the opportunity to gain experience within our critical care units.

This post is based at the Royal Derby site although there is an expectation that the post holder would work closely with colleagues across UHDB in developing and delivering pharmacy services.
• Work closely with Clinicians and Nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines within an identified surgical speciality as well as ensuring the cost-effective use of resources.
• Lead, deliver, and develop pharmacy services to surgical division in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
• Support the development of early career and trainee pharmacists.
• You will act as a senior member of the surgical pharmacy team assisting with management of day-to-day operational duties as required.
• You will act as a line manager for designated band 7 pharmacists.
• Actively participate within regional and national network forums to facilitate harmonisation of practises and share learning.
• The post includes weekend working, participation in the bank holiday rota and on-call.

The Pharmacy Department and Surgical Division are committed to developing the roles of pharmacist prescribers and the successful applicant would be expected to train as a prescriber and actively contribute towards improving the standards of prescribing through participation in these roles.
