Springer Nature is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and flexible art editor to work on the world-leading Nature Reviews series of STM journals. The Nature Reviews portfolio includes Life, Clinical, Physical and Social Sciences titles. The successful candidate will work within a team of art editors and editors that produce scientific illustrations for a selection of these Nature Reviews journals. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds.
We are primarily looking to hire for this position in London.
Responsibilities:
The role will require the creation of scientifically accurate figures for articles, as well as decorative illustrations for the journal, in accordance with our recognisable house style:
Scientific illustrations are created in Adobe Illustrator following house style, using sketches and roughs provided by the authors and editors as a guide.
Creation of illustrated monthly covers, and web homepage imagery.
Re-styling data graphics, such as graphs, maps, timelines and flow diagrams in house style.
Art working and retouching, setting and labelling of photographs and data renders.
Illustrations for editorially written articles, and picture research if photographs are needed.
Hands-on management and organisation of workloads in order to meet press deadlines.
Occasional poster and infographic design.
Follow workflows, guidelines and procedures to ensure efficient turnarounds of work across departments.
Skills and Experience:
Essential
Proficient in using Adobe Illustrator. Experience using Adobe Photoshop also preferred.
Demonstrable artistic and creative flair
Ability to work in a deadline-driven team environment
Desirable
BA Honours in Graphic Design (illustration) [or equivalent]
