35-37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours

This opening assignment is for 4-5 months

Work between the office and home working as per rotas within the team.

Social worker to join the Social Work Assessment Team, with experience in statutory social work and the completion of single assessments. Have experience of working in partnership – with children, their family and wider networks, and professional colleagues across education, health, police and the voluntary sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Make timely and appropriate responses to and manage assigned work in accordance with Directorate policies and procedures, budgets and relevant legislation.
Share information and develop effective working relationships with team members, professionals in other agencies and other colleagues in the Directorate.
Promote integrated working, ensuring a need led response that improves the outcomes for children and their families.
Undertake assessments in line with the “Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families”.
Establish and implement action plans based on the assessed needs of the children, young people and their families, the child/young person in conjunction with their family and other agencies using Signs of Safety..
Promote partnership and participation with children and their families.
Carry out regular reviews of individual plans, record outcomes and formulate plans based on those reviews.

Qualifications:

Degree in Social Work or equivalent Social Work qualification, e.g. Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work (PGDipSW), Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW), Diploma in Social Work (DipSW), Certificate in Social Services (CSS).
Current Social Work England Registration.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of a range of social work theories relevant to the role.
Knowledge of the main social care services and resources provided by the statutory, voluntary and independent sector.
Knowledge to use the law, regulatory and statutory guidance to inform practice decisions.
Understanding of multi-agency systems, agreements and protocols.
Recognise harm and risk indicators of different forms of harm to children.

Experience:

A minimum of 1 year post qualifying experience of direct work with children and their families, including children in need of support and child protection.
Experience of managing teams and people, managing performance, managing finance and decision making.
Substantial post qualifying experience of working in a safeguarding or statutory Social Work context.
Experience in developing care plans and implementing care packages.
Experience of working effectively with professionals from a diverse range of organisations and of using policies and procedures in Social Work practice.

Skills & Abilities:

Effective communication and problem solving skills.
Able to effectively plan and prioritise workload.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
Ability to work in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
Ability to handle difficult situations sensitively.
