About the role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, providing cover when required and flexibility across the 7 day a week operation, the Optimised Production Leader is responsible for leading the production control team in providing a robust production plan that supports the efficient running of the plant and daily achievement of the internal and external workplan, including the accuracy and integrity of workload and hours reporting and plant workplan design. You will also be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Plant Manager in the achievement of all plant people, customer, financial, and productivity targets across the balanced scorecard.
  • Providing plant ownership and leadership of the production control processes, including forecasting and analysis, resourcing, workplan, and more.
  • Supporting the Plant Manager in the deployment of continuous improvement and change management activity.
  • Supporting performance across all shifts and driving performance improvements.
  • Identification of, engagement, and contact with key customers within plant catchment area to enable effective planning and operation.
  • Production of the weekly production plan and communication to all key stakeholders.
  • Identifying and monitoring high impact work areas for efficiency improvements through the loss opportunity model.
  • Ensuring all seasonal plans are designed to meet our customer and efficiency targets.
  • Ensuring deployment and effective use of all business-standard production control systems and tools.
  • Overall plant responsibility for the integrity of all traffic and hours systems, databases, and tools.
  • Compliance with all relevant legislation and business policies regarding resource management.
  • Developing and leading on the business plan to achieve plant year-on-year cost reduction plan or workload absorption.
  • Providing timely traffic and hours data to support the daily, weekly, and monthly review of performance in the plant.
  • Ensuring hours and headcount system alignment.
  • Ensuring the resourcing to workload approach is robust, maintaining the correct supply mix to clear the model week workload and deliver on the customer and efficiency targets.

About You

As this is an extremely interesting and varied role, we are looking for candidates who are flexible, can work under pressure and own excellent communication skills. We will be looking for possession and the ability to demonstrate the following skills in application and at assessment:

  • Understanding of plant operations, automation, and of operational production control processes.
  • Good understanding of MIST and Master Duty Set (MDS), or related systems, and production control toolsets.
  • Good knowledge of HR processes and procedures and working knowledge Continuous Improvement.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to coach, develop and support others.
  • Strong people skills, with ability to build effective relationships, communicate, influence, and persuade at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical skills, highly numerate, with ability to evaluate performance, identify trends and implement improvements.
  • Able to develop plans, assess risks and issues, and deploy to cost, quality and timescale parameters.
  • Strong IT literacy, with ability to use standard business applications.

Desirably:

  • Extensive knowledge of plant operations and production control processes.
  • The ability to convey specific knowledge, with a clear objective, maintaining the focus of the team.
  • Successful deployment of change, being able to challenge traditional ways of working.
