Summary

Manpower is recruiting Prison Custody Officers from a diverse range of backgrounds for a privately run prison in Bridgend.

The Role
Prison Custody Officers (PCOs) are key to the effective running of our prisons and we are looking for people who can fit into this role.

There is no such thing as a 'typical' Prison Custody Officer. We encourage applications from individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, who can demonstrate the integrity, resilience and strong communication skills needed to thrive in this role. No specific qualifications or relevant experience is required.

The philosophy of G4S prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing prisoners with structure and routine
  • Making sure prisoners get to work in the morning
  • Ensuring they are actively engaging in education and the prison regime
  • Ensuring they are secure in their cells in the evening

Training
Your initial training lasts for 8 weeks, where you will receive comprehensive training which includes Control & Restraint, First Aid, Interpersonal skills and Health & Safety.

G4S's training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care.

You must be flexible and available to work any shift pattern. Which will include a mixture of mornings, afternoons, evenings, and night shifts over a 40-hour working week, including every other weekend. With the option for overtime and shift increases this opportunity has excellent earning potential

Starting salary
You will work 40 hours per week on a starting salary of £29,500 with the option to increase to 44 hours per week, the starting salary for this would be £32,450 per annum.

** Please note that 44-hour contracts are only available after successful completion of your initial training course and will be allocated accordingly depending upon eligibility criteria.
