Summary


This is a fantastic opportunity in Cornwall to act as a Principal Clinical Scientist (radiotherapy) for the service delivery of radiotherapy physics support.

You will be joining a thriving department possessing two Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators with 6 degrees of freedom couches, Xstrahl superficial unit, Philips BigBore CT with 4DCT capability supported by Pinnacle treatment planning computers. The Clinical Oncology unit actively participates in National Clinical Trials delivers approximately 65% of IMRT (VMAT) treatments. Current service developments include SABR, Linac replacement (next 2-3 years) and TPS replacement (next 2 years). The Radiotherapy Physics Team is made up of 18 members of staff, including Radiographers, Clinical Scientists, Dosimetrists, Engineers and Support Staff.

You will have registered with the HCPC and have experience in radiotherapy physics, including planning, Quality Assurance and ideally commissioning of new equipment. We are looking for a dynamic, capable person, with proven abilities in radiotherapy physics to join our team.
• The post holder will lead specialist scientific and technical developments in the provision of:
• Quality assurance (QA) and radiation dosimetry (DOS)
• Quality Management (QM) of the Radiotherapy Physics Section and Radiotherapy Clinical Trials (RCT)



Specifically this will include carrying out complex procedures, providing services and expert advice on all current and future aspects of techniques, on the optimisation and safety of treatment, with responsibility for developing/maintaining appropriate quality assurance programmes and data related to the safety of equipment and treatment.

The post holder will also play a key role in:
• Quality Assurance; both routine and patient specific
• Radiation Dosimetry
• Radiotherapy Treatment Planning
• Radiation Protection
• The post holder will be a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in radiotherapy and has responsibility for ensuring the correct operation of specific radiotherapy systems.
• The post holder will report professionally to the Head of Radiotherapy Physics, and managerially to the Senior Principal Clinical Scientist(s).
• The post holder will have professional responsibility for other Clinical Scientists & Dosimetrists in relation to work associated with QM/QA/DOS.
