Summary


We are delighted to invite applicants to join our team of Emergency Department Specialist Clinical Pharmacists within our Urgent and Emergency Care directorate.

This exciting, fixed term/secondment opportunity covering maternity leave has arisen for an experienced clinical pharmacist looking for a new opportunity to develop their clinical, leadership and management skills.

Our ED is one of the busiest and most dynamic in the UK, acting as a major trauma centre for the East Midlands. The incredible job done by the whole team is captured as part of Channel 4’s 24 hours in A&E series.

Our ED believes in the value of having strong Pharmacy support to deliver an expert patient-facing clinical pharmacy service and support embedding medicines optimisation within the MDT. This post will involve working alongside our established specialist ED clinical pharmacists, MMTs and MMA. It will include actively reviewing patients coming into the hospital and have a strong prescribing role. We believe this is a key role for a motivated pharmacist who wants to use their skills to develop the service we provide at the hospital front door.

You will be able to define and deliver optimal patient care with the support of the Pharmacy and wider progressive and dynamic MDT. You will be expected to act as a role model and mentor for junior pharmacists and technicians. You will work alongside clinicians, specialist nurses and ACPs to manage this exciting and quickly changing area.

To lead and develop the pharmacy service to the Emergency Department, in liaison with other Specialist Clinical Pharmacists

To provide clinical input (at specialist level) to the Emergency Department, with specific higher level clinical responsibilities for one or more defined sub-specialties

To work alongside the medical team and Advanced Clinical Practitioner team in prescribing for people being cared for in the Emergency Department

Provide highly complex advice and guidance requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options on all issues relating to prescribing and therapeutics in the relevant specialty, where possible in line with national and local guidelines.

Maintain a working knowledge relating to prescribing and therapeutics for all services in the acute medical cluster

To form a key component of the multidisciplinary team in the Emergency Department

Providing an advanced level of clinical pharmacy service to the Emergency Department

Support the Directorate Lead Pharmacist for Urgent and Emergency Care to deliver the ‘best possible clinical pharmacy service’

To line manage and support more junior pharmacists and Medicines Management Technicians in the Urgent and Emergency Care Directorate

Participate in back-up senior on-call rota supporting junior pharmacists

Involvement in education and training of a variety of healthcare professionals including diploma & pre-registration pharmacists, undergraduates and trainee advanced nurse practitioners
